a specialist privately? An all too common question these days from my patients, many of whom have not “gone private” before, are not insured and can ill afford the resulting bills. But needs must, and, faced with long delays for scans, outpatient appointments and operations, they are choosing quality of life over financial prudence. So will it help? Demand for private treatment from the uninsured has rocketed since the pandemic began, with self-payers now accounting for about one in three private patients. According to the Private Healthcare Information Network, more than 67,000 people in the UK funded their own treatment in the third quarter of last year — a 35 per cent increase on the same period...>>>
